Would you be happier if you were off of Facebook? This Dutch nonprofit initiative has created a website, 99 days of freedom, and is asking people to try their own experiment. My own kids left FB years ago. On their own. They felt like the fights, the gossip and the drama was not worth it. All three of them say they are quite happy to not be on Facebook. Most of their friends are not on anymore either. The young people who still use it, tell me it for family and to keep in touch with their grandparents and family. How they use it has changed dramatically. The young people I am speaking with are college age and high school. Most of them use Instagram and snapchat to communicate now. Facebook paid one billion dollars for Instagram in 2012, so they found a way to get back and keep those kids who have migrated to Instagram. Do you ever wonder what life is like without Facebook? In response to Facebook’s controversial mood experiment involving some 700,000 unwitting users, we present you 99 Days of Freedom; an online study on how life without Facebook impacts user happiness. Joining is very simple: follow our three […]
How do you feel about Facebook secret psychology experiment on users’ emotions?
In many ways, Facebook owns you. When you clicked that little TOS box, (terms of service), you agreed to let Facebook use your content and photos. Now they have done something that I feel is ethically wrong. You and your friends, and followers may of been part of an experiment conducted by manipulating your feeds. Facebook manipulated over 683,000 of it’s users feeds to see how people reacted to either positive or negative posts from their friends. Conducting secret psychology experiment on users’ emotions. Search Engine Submission Services are a Scam
This article is from Bill Hartzer . He said everything I was going to say. Thank you Bill! Great article, visit his site for other good articles. I officially officially declare that all search engine submission services are now scams. If you receive an email from anyone claiming to offer search engine submission services or a similar submission service–it is spam and also a scam. In a recent Google Webmaster Forum thread, a Google representative officially stated: these services are not needed and can even be counter-productive Yes, search engine submission is officially dead–and officially a scam. Take a look at the UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email–spam) email that I received just recently, it looked like this: The email is offering “search engine submission services” and the service, which costs a hefty $75.00 per year provides “submission and search engine ranking for domain owners”. The offer goes on to say: Failure to complete your search engine registration by Nov 10, 2012 may result in the cancellation of this order (making it difficult for your customers to locate you using search engines on the web). Sure, they want you to reply and pay for their “service” by a certain date. But it is absolutely a […]
San Francisco Writers Conference | WordPress Training Class
Most of you who know me, know I have been part of the San Francisco Writers Conference for 10 years. A friend of mine asked me if I would like to volunteer , and I was so excited. The conference was then held at the St Francis Hotel, and I loved every minute of it. Here is a photo of the volunteers for that year! 2005. The only two from this photo who are still volunteering, are Kate Farrell, and myself. I am sure we are missing a few people in this photo. We have 75 volunteers, so it is a big crew. As the Volunteer Director, I must say our volunteers do an amazing job. We could not put on this wonderful event without all of their help. Kate is the current President of the Women’s National Book Association, SF Chapter, and I am the former President. The SFWC is how I discovered the WNBA-SF Chapter, which is an organization I love dearly. You can visit our table at the conference to learn more. I look forward to this event every year. It feel like a class reunion. If you have never been to the conference, you are missing […]
Do you use Twitter? Sometimes fun things do happen.
Twitter. Ah twitter. Say it all in a #hash tag in under a 130 characters. But say what? And say it to whom? I am still not sure what I am suppose to do with twitter. I feel like a small fish in a very big sea. Sometimes though a fun thing happens, and you realize maybe the world is not so big and vast when it comes to people touching other people. I love Masterchef Australia, and then I started watching Masterchef UK season 9, and I just finished it last night. It was quite enjoyable. The cooking was amazing. One of the contestants you could not help but like and root for is a talented young lady named Natalie Coleman. She is a lovely person, humble, hard working, sweet and close to her family. She feeds her Grandpa and Uncle, to help look after them and because she loves them. She tries out her recipes on her Grandpa. He must love that. She is a creative and talented cook. She seemed to have things so well thought out. I thought it must be her career in finance, she was so orderly and always made sense with her food. […]
Fake Email, Scam Email, Is it real?
Fake email, scam email. Every day most of us probably get some. I am just going to start a list with samples of fake or scam emails in this article, and keep updating it as they come in. I have many email addresses, so I tend to get almost every scam or fake email going around at some point. I have seen everything, so when I get one I have not seen before, I want to warn people. I get so many bad, fake, scam emails, that I usually just delete them. Then I meet people who fall for them and it breaks my heart. Many people are too ashamed to tell anyone. They feel like fools. The best prevention is education and warning others. Share your knowledge if you know older people who still believe these emails are real or are not sure. Talk about this with your friends and relatives. It infuriates me how many people feel scared by these fake emails. One trick that is common and some people I know fell for it, is getting an email saying your domain name is due and to pay them $70. to renew! Those are fake emails!! Then the […]
Fruit Spam using Instagram-Beware of links
Fruit spam? Fruit spam. If you’ve been noticing a strange rise of fruit-related pictures in your Instagram feed today, don’t worry. Your friends haven’t become (even more) obsessed with taking pictures of their healthy meals. Well, you might want to worry a wee bit, because the pictures might be linked to a fruit-themed spam attack that’s slowly making its way around the popular photo-sharing service. It’s unclear just how said spammers are getting a hold of users’ login credentials, but the attack results in a number of pictures of fruit – of all things – being posted to a person’s Instagram account. The text accompanying the pictures also includes a Bitly hyperlink – clicked on more than 35,000 times as of this article’s writing – that takes users to a fake BBC page promoting weight-loss coffee. “Ever seen this stuff? I guess its super healthy, im giving it a try. I saw it on Dr Oz’s show! Link is in my bio #lovemyfollowers #health,” reads an example of one spammy photo’s description. To its credit, Bitly is now throwing up a giant warning message for users attempting to click through to the aforementioned link. It’s possible the fake BBC site could just […]
